PKR vice-president N Surendran wants to know why Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor have not denied the allegations about them by carpet merchant Deepak Jaikishian.
Najib and Umno must answer the allegations raised by Deepak, Surendran said. "They should not concoct lies about our involvement in the matter," he said.
Surendran (left) was asked about allegations made by Anwar's former aide, Anuar Shaari, in a New Straits Times (NST) report today onOpposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim having played a role in Deepak's allegations.
Anuar alleged, according to the NST report, that "Anwar had promised to settle Deepak's financial woes in return for his defamation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak".
Surendran and Subang MP Sivarasa Rasiah are lawyers for Deepak in the suit his company, Astana Canggih Sdn Bhd, has filed against Awan Megah Sdn Bhd.
At a hearing last week, Deepak testified that Najib gave his approval to transfer a 223.3-acre (89.332ha) parcel of land in Bukit Raja, Selangor, from Awan Megah to a nominee company owned by Deepak.
This, he said, was stated in a letter dated Sept 25, 2006, from Asta Canggih to Najib.

In it Najib, then the defence minister, had initialled a note asking the ministry's deputy secretary-general to look into the transfer and to commit to this in formal documentation.
Deepak also told in court that Rosmah had arranged the meeting with Najib.
On Monday, pro-Umno blogger Papa Gomo uploaded on YouTube a two-minute video footage said to have been recorded secretly.
The blogger claimed the footage shows Deepak confessing to several unknown people that PKR leaders, including de facto leader Anwar, Surendran, Sivarasa and vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar used him as a tool to defame Najib and Rosmah.
No prepared script for Deepak
Surendran said he and Sivarasa merely acted as lawyers for Deepak in the matter of public interest.
“There were allegations of financial misconduct against Najib and the senior Wanita Umno figure (Senator Raja Ropiah Raja Abdullah, a former director of Awan Megah). Our relationship with Deepak is purely on a lawyer-client basis.
“We had nothing to do with his decision to go public on his allegations against Najib.
“The NST allegation that there was a 'script' written for Deepak to read out in court is an outrageous lie and the newspaper displayed complete disregard for media ethics as it did not ask for our comments before publishing the baseless story,” Surendran said.
When Deepak took the stand in the civil suit last week, he gave oral testimony and at times High Court judge Zabariah Mohd Yusof stopped Deepak, telling him not to raise unrelated matters in court.
The judge also decided not to admit the purported letter to Najib as evidence because Deepak did not include it in his bundle of documents before the start of the trial.
However, Justice Zabariah allowed oral testimony on the matter, which Deepak gave.
