Application form for postal voters to be on EC website

The Election Commission (EC) will upload the application form to vote through post at its website soon, its deputy chairperson Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said today.

Despite demands from some quarters for the EC to abolish postal voting and replace it with early voting, he said the commission found postal voting still relevant and required for certain voters.

"They include policemen and soldiers who are working overseas, on ships or at the borders and they do not have time to vote early.

"These people are eligible to apply to vote through post using form 1A," he told Bernama.

First time for media practitioners

He said that for the coming 13th general election, it would be for the first time that the media practitioners, including journalists, photographers, cameramen and technicians who were required to be on duty outside their registered voting area, were eligible to apply to vote through post.

On the number of media practitioners that would be involved, he said it would only be known after they had sent their applications.

Wan Ahmad said the completed application forms should be returned to the EC on the third day after the nomination day.

He said other Malaysians eligible to apply as postal voters were Malaysian civil servants working in Malaysian embassies abroad, students studying abroad, and their spouses, and EC workers.
