Police OK with second autopsy on security guard

SHAH ALAM, Jan 31 — The police have no objections to a family request for a second post-mortem on security guard C. Sugumaran who died in handcuffs after being chased down by police, The Star Online reported.
Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the family had to bear the cost and also organise the post-mortem.
“We have no problem with having a second opinion, but the cost would have to be borne by them,” he was quoted as telling reporters today.
It was reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has ordered the forensic report on Sugumaran’s death after MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel raised the issue in yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
Sugumaran died after allegedly being beaten by police and the public after he ran amok in Taman Sri Nanding, Hulu Langat last Wednesday.
The police have denied the allegations.
The initial post-mortem by Serdang Hospital showed that Sugumaran, 39, had died of a heart attack.
