Cecil Abraham refuses to comment on SD2 allegations

Senior lawyer Cecil Abraham, who is allegedly embroiled in allegations of being involved in private investigator P Balasubramaniam’s second statutory declaration, has refused to say anything on the matter.

When approached by Malaysiakini today following the conclusion of a court hearing and asked to comment, the senior lawyer said, “No comment on anything”.

Queried whether he wanted to comment on the challenge brought forward by lawyer and activist Haris Ibrahim, Cecil, who is also a member of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Operations Review Panel, kept quiet and walked away.

His son Sunil, when approached after the court proceedings, also kept quiet.

Both lawyers were approached after they represented the liquidators in the Kian Joo Holdings Sdn Bhd, where another senior lawyer, VK Lingham, had asked for Queen’s Counsel Sir Edward Garnier to represent him and the majority contributories in the dispute and contempt proceedings.

Lingham had applied for Garnier to be admitted as an advocate and solicitor in the Kuala Lumpur High Court for the Queen’s Counsel to represent him in the contempt and majority contributories case.

NONEOn Jan 4, Haris (rightwas reported to have challenged Cecil to sue him in order to clear his name following allegation the senior lawyer was involved in drafting the second SD, and wanted the Bar Council to investigate the person over professional misconduct.

MACC Operations Review Panel head Hadenan Abdul Jalil, had on Dec 20,  said Cecil had no hand in the panel’s decision to stop the investigation against Balasubramaniam.

Malaysiakini has previously attempted to contact Cecil, who is a senior partner in the legal firm of Zul Rafique and Partners, since last month through telephone, writing, facsimile and email, but has obtained no response.

Carpet businessman Deepak Jaikishian had said that he had proof of the senior lawyer’s alleged involvement in the matter and wouldfurnish it to the Bar Council in its investigations.

It was reported that Bar Council chairperson Lim Chee Wee had said that it is investigating to establish the identity of the mystery lawyer alleged to have drafted the second SD.
