EC in final stages of GE13 preparation

The Election Commission is in the final lap of preparations for the next general
PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) is in its final stage of preparation for the coming general election, evident from its briefings for teachers who would act as the EC’s returning officers and election workers.
The EC is doing the last nationwide briefings for teachers for the all-important 13th general elections, expected to be held in the next 60 days.
EC training officer Abdul Hamid Ali, when met by FMT after one such briefing sessions in Petaling Jaya today, said the briefings are conducted for teachers who will supervise polling centres during the general election.
“These teachers will be there to assist in the electoral process and school principals will be the head supervisors for a particular polling centre.
“This is the third time briefings are conducted, the first stage of briefings was conducted before the use of indelible ink was gazetted and the second stage of briefings was conducted subsequently.”
Hamid said that the briefings were conducted once again as there were some changes to the voting process.
“This is a nationwide effort and next week there will be one more conducted in Selangor and there will also be briefings conducted in Kedah and Johor by other EC officials.
“After this final stage of briefings, no more briefing will be conducted. We will give out CDs to those involved and they can be further briefed by watching the CDs,” he said.
EC deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar recently assured the public that the EC will be fully ready by the end of February, in line with its deadline to complete all polling day preparations.
