EC warns Pemantau not to disrupt GE process
The Election Commission (EC) has warned Pemantau Pilihan Raya Rakyat (Pemantau), a citizen's campaign launched by Bersih 2.0 and other NGOs, not to disrupt the general election process or else action will be taken against them.
The EC deputy chairperson Wan Ahmad Wan Omar (right) told Malay dailyBerita Harian that the commission has not accredited Pemantau, which plans to mobilise some 10,000 volunteers to monitor the general election, as a polls observer.
The commission will not issue any approval to the volunteers to enter nomination or polling centers, he said.
Should anyone go against the Election Act and Election Offences Act, Wan Ahmad stressed, the EC would not hesitate taking action against them.
"We hope those involved in Pemantau understand and respect election laws, control their emotions and practise discipline, not become trouble makers.
"We also don't know what is the real function of this group. I only hope that they will not interfere with the work of the EC officers and workers throughout the general election process," he was quoted as saying.
