Government "very considerate" to allow Stadium Merdeka venue - Rais
KUALA KLAWANG - Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Rais Yatim described the government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's leadership as being very considerate for allowing Stadium Merdeka to be used as the venue for the assembly tomorrow.
He said, despite the government's permission to hold the assembly at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, the organisers had insisted on Stadium Merdeka.
"And because the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is very considerate, they've been allowed to use Stadium Merdeka.
However, the terms of the Peaceful Assembly Act must be complied with," he said.
"Among others, the conditions of the Act are, not to obstruct traffic; affect businesses and transport services, and ensure an atmosphere of unity during any procession or speech at the stadium," he said.
He was speaking at a gathering between police and Rela personnel of the Jelebu parliamentary constituency, in conjunction with the 2013 shooting competition at the Titi range, near here today.
Commenting on the people's view of the assembly, Rais, who is Jelebu member of parliament, said that whoever wanted to gain power through democracy ought to prove three requirements.
He listed these as, their contribution; the potential to administer and protect the interests of the people the way Barisan Nasional (BN) has; and show strong ties between component parties.
"We have not seen these three requirements, which the people should see as well. The important issue is that the people experience this evaluation. And we ask that the people express this evaluation," he added.
Rais announced a RM120,000 allocation for the upgrade of facilities at the Titi shooting range.
