People from all over the country converged in Kuala Lumpur today for the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat in Stadium Merdeka. The atmosphere in the city centre was festive, and police this time stayed true to their pledge not to spoil the rally by holding back the Federal Reserve Unit. Countless groups representing various grievances, such as costly education, state oil royalties, Lynas in Pahang, violence against women and plight of workers were donned in their respective shirts with placards highlighting their battle cries. In the end, their shouts reverberated with one single demand: the ouster of the Barisan Nasional government at the next election.
