'How can PM get voter details for new year letter?'

A new year's greeting letter allegedly sent by Prime Minister and Selangor BN chairman Najib Abdul Razak to voters in Selangor, has sparked a series of questions from the opposition.

Speaking to the press at his service center this morning, Selangor DAP secretary Ean Yong Hian Wah said many Selangor voters including himself and his wife, have received the letter together with a new year calendar recently.

Apart from the new year's greeting, Najib, in the letter, urged the Selangor voters to deny Pakatan the state government in the next general election.

"2013 is an important year to all the Malaysians, in particular the Selangor people. After more than four years of disorder under the DAP, PKR and PAS government, it is now the time to change,

NONE"A new mandate must be given to BN in the next general election. We are aware of the faults and shortcomings under the previous BN government. We promise to rise again with a new spirit in order to give the best service to the Selangor people," the letter read.

Ean Yong (right), who is also the Selangor Exco and Seri Kembangan state assemblyperson, believes the majority, if not all, of the Selangor voters, have received the letter.

The families of his service center director Thong Kim Fatt and Seri Kembangan Baru Village vice-chief Liew Mook Keow, have received six and seven letters respectively.

Who's footing the bill?

What puzzled Ean Yong was that the letter states the voting address and the Mykad address of the particular recipient.

"How can BN obtain our voter details? Though we can know the voter's constituency from the Election Commission website and the electoral roll, we still cannot get the voter's Mykad address."

He questioned if the BN government obtained the details from the EC and National Registration Department (NRD).

He also urged BN to explain whether it was the party or the government which footed the bill for this exercise.

"BN started to campaign even before the election, it shows that BN desperately wants to win back Selangor.

"We believe this is just a start, if this (letter campaign) could happen, there will be more dirty tricks coming," he said.

Complaining that this kind of campaign was unfair, Ean Yong said he will lodge a report with the authorities soon.
