LABUAN MP'S BANKRUPCY CASE FIASCO

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Kota Kinabalu Division wants the Department of Insolvency to explain to the public how Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Yussof Mahal was cleared of bankruptcy over a RM16 million loan owed to the Sabah Development Bank (SDB).

PKR KK Division Chief, Christina Liew wondered whether the loan had been fully paid up or was merely a schedule worked out for repayment by installments.
The Labuan High Court had issued a notice of bankruptcy to Yusoff on Aug 7, 2012.

"In October last year, he was allowed until Nov 7, 2012 to rescind the bankruptcy order made against him when he appealed for sufficient time.

"The case was supposed to have been heard last November following his notice of appeal but there was no further development.

"And now out of the blue in January this year, the Labuan MP said he is no longer a bankrupt.

I think an explanation is in order," she said in a statement, Wednesday.

Liew was commenting on a media report quoting Yussof as saying that he had been issued with a letter dated Dec. 12, 2012 by the Department of Insolvency declaring him as no longer a bankrupt under Section 38(1) (C) Bankruptcy Act 1967.
