No bombs in run-up to rally

It was just bags filled with papers, says Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad.
KUALA LUMPUR: The police have dismissed reports that two bombs were found in the city in the run-up to Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat held at Stadium Merdeka today.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad said two bags were found at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, which houses the Twin Towers, and in front of the Bar Council building.
“We have investigated the matter. There were no harmful devices found. It was just bags filled with papers. No explosives were found,” he told a press conference here.
He also said the police had sufficient police personal to control the rally.
“Till now the event is trouble-free… No arrest has been recorded… no interesting cases so far,” he said.
He said the police have closed Jalan Raja Chulan, Bulatan Datuk Onn, Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan, Jalan Hang Tuah and roads around Stadium Merdeka.
Earlier today, Utusan Malaysia reported that a bomb was detonated by the police bomb disposal squad at the KLCC.
