PM dismisses Deepak's allegations as 'not true'

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has denied allegations by carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan that he and his family members were involved in a cover-up operation linked to the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.

NONE"It's not true. He is not a credible person," Najib said at a press conference after chairing the BN supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur tonight.

Najib's curt reply broke the long, ominous silence over the serious allegations by Deepak, which began in late November.

The controversial businessperson, in a series of exposes, accused the prime minister and some of his family members of being instrumental in paying off former private investigator P Balasubramaniam to sign a statutory declaration refuting his earlier statutory declaration linking Najib to Altantuya.
'It won't affect BN'

Deepak made it clear that he only came forward because he believed he was cheated by Selangor Wanita Umno leader Raja Ropiaah Raja Abdullah in a land deal gone bad.

Pressed on whether this issue would effect the BN's chances in the forthcoming general election, Najib brushed this aside.

"No, it's not an issue. It won't affect (BN in elections)," he said.
Asked for his thoughts on former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's analysis that a small win for BN in the coming general election would be an "empty victory", the prime minister said the coalition would try its best.
"Well, we will do our level best as we all want a strong government," Najib added.
