Rais: Don't believe propaganda on Internet, see for yourself the achievements of Najib Razak & Musa Aman

MENUMBOK,- Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim has urged the people not to be influenced by propaganda fanned, via the Internet, by certain quarters to belittle the government.

He said the government had always been concerned over the well-being of the people and tried to fulfil their requirement satisfactorily, as seen by the efforts and achievements of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

"So, I urge that we persevere and if possible, refute such disparagement with our justification," he said when launching the state-level, 'Himpunan Kasih Sayang, Klik Dengan Bijak' and 'Nilai-nilai Murni' programme at the district council field here today.

Meanwhile, Rais said the ministry had expanded the broadband access for Sabah to 47 per cent, adding that 180 wireless villages would benefit.

He said the people should avoid misusing the Internet, which would be detrimental to the country's integrity, education and religion.

He urged parents to monitor their children who surfed the Internet, and teachers to guide their students in accessing only the appropriate channels.

According to him, the ministry, through the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), would tighten the existing law to monitor enforcement in the Internet under Section 233 of the MCMC Act.

The two-day programme which started yesterday, was initiated by Sabah and Labuan MCMC, with the cooperation of agencies under the ministry, including the information, broadcasting and Sabah Special Affairs departments, and Bernama.

The programme, among others, was aimed at educating the public to be more guarded, responsible and to priotise security while surfing the Internet.

Also present were ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf, Sabah Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, who is also Klias state assemblyman, Umno Beaufort acting chairman Isnin Aliasneh and Kuala Penyu state assemblyman John Teo Mau Sing.
