SW1M’s Sharifah goes to the cops

She reports that SAMM and Harakah Daily are trying to make the public hate her.

PETALING JAYA: SW1M president Sharifah Zohra Jabeen Syed Shah Miskin has lodged a police report against PAS organ Harakah Daily and student group Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM), accusing both of attempting to arouse hatred against her.

She also accused SAMM of trespassing when four of its representatives entered SW1M’s Gombak office to give her an invitation to tonight’s “Academic Freedom and Fundamental Rights” forum at the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.

“SAMM and Harakah Daily are abusing me by raising the hatred of Malaysians because I am not attending the forum,” she said in the report, lodged with the Setapak police station at 1.15 this morning.

“SAMM also has used my photograph on the banner promoting the forum and is spreading false news through the Internet by claiming that I am attending the forum.”

She also said Harakah Daily had “published a false SW1M document to imply that I am accepting the invitation”.

She denied that the signature in the document was hers and that the stamp on it was SW1M’s.

SAMM has denied that its representatives barged into the SW1M office.

“Our coordinator Wan Farel was received warmly by their staff,” SAMM propaganda director Edy Noor Reduan told FMT.

He said Sharifah Zohra should show up at tonight’s forum “instead of giving one-sided statements”.

The forum is organised by three student groups – SAMM, Kumpulan Aktivis Mahasiswa Independen and Independent Students Front. The speakers will include constitutional law expert Aziz Bari, International Islamic University lecturer Maszlee Malik and Universiti Utara Malaysia student KS Bawani.

Bawani and Sharifah Zohra shot to public notice through a YouTube video that has gone viral on the Internet. The 24-minute clip shows Bawani arguing in support of free education and the SW1M chief berating her.
