Syabas: Water supply crisis in KL and Gombak over

KUALA LUMPUR: The disruption of water supply that affected about half-a-million people in Gombak and Kuala Lumpur since Dec 29, is over.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) corporate affairs executive director Abdul Halem Mat Som said the Yellow Code Emergency Response Plan (ERP), which was activated in the two areas on Jan 1, was dissolved at 6pm Thursday.
"The water supply in the two areas has fully resumed. To date, Syabas has not received any complaints on water supply disruptions or requests for water supply through tankers," he said in a statement Friday.
The water supply crisis in the two areas started when a pumphouse in Wangsa Maju broke down on Dec 29, and at 3.15pm, on Jan 1.
The situation worsened when the main switchboard of the pumphouse in Pudu Hulu Baru also developed problems at 1.30pm on Jan 1, allegedly after maintenance works on an electrical substation nearby by Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
Abdul Halem said when the ERP was activated, 3,584 deliveries were made by Syabas tanker lorries to Kuala Lumpur (3,003) and Gombak (581).
Meanwhile, he said, 242 static water tanks were also placed in the two areas. - Bernama
