Thief fails to steal DAP truck

A thief's attempt to steal a DAP truck, similar to the one stolen in Johor in November, is foiled by a security guard.
PETALING JAYA: Barely two months after a DAP election campaign truck went missing in Johor, a thief attempted to steal a similar truck at the DAP headquarters here.
Speaking to reporters, Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun said they received news about the incident at about 8.50am from neighbours.
“It is suspected that the thief was trying to connect the wires to crank the engine,” he added.
The three-tonne truck worth RM150,000 after modifications suffered damage to its steering wheel, switch box, clutch pedal and door.
The truck had been parked at the guarded open car park next to the party headquarters since three days ago.
Recounting the incident, nearby restaurant owner Wan Kwai May said she saw a vegetable vendor panting when she went to the wet market this morning.
The market is located opposite the open car park.
She said the vendor informed her that he had chased the thief who had tried to steal the truck, and added that it was the car park security guard who first spotted the suspicious man.
The security guard had asked the man whether he was from DAP, but the man continued talking on his handphone.
“The guard kept asking, then the man suddenly bolted out and got on a motorcycle. The vendor who saw the incident chased after the man but he did not manage to catch him,” she claimed.
However, both the security guard and the vendor were not present at the press conference.
Meanwhile, DAP deputy chairman Tan Kok Wai said the truck was used to store DAP merchandise for the nationwide election campaign tour.
The party had lodged a police report over the incident.
Last November, a DAP truck was stolen outside a Johor party worker’s shop in Skudai.
