We're ready to be audited, says Syabas

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) will extend its cooperation to auditors appointed by the Selangor government to audit its operations, especially on the Wangsa Maju pumphouse issue.

Its executive director (corporate affairs division) Abdul Halem Mat Som said Syabas had been informed about the audit by the state government on Jan 15.

“Syabas has no problem to extend its cooperation," he said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The statement also stated several matters raised by the state government to the media on the water supply in the Klang Valley.

Among others, Abdul Halem said, the state government accused Syabas of refusing to carry out the scheduled water supply distribution as was agreed by the Selangor Water Supply Monitoring Committee last Jan 8.

He said the approach would be taken only if there was no other alternative and that by doing so did not resolve the problem completely.

“Syabas embarked on a more effective alternative by installing bypass pipes for a long-term solution where water can be supplied to the affected areas in less than a week,” he added.

He said the state government also claimed that Syabas refused to send a representative to the centralised operations room at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council to monitor the distribution of water supply to the affected residents.

His explanation was that Syabas had activated its Emergency Response Plan (ERP) to monitor the situation, and also had set up its operations rooms at its headquarters and also the regional offices.

A total of 950 Syabas employees took turn to work round-the-clock to monitor the water supply situation , as well as to help supply water to consumers using lorry tankers and static tanks, he added.

He said that as 7am on Jan 16, Syabas lorry tankers had made 3,578 trips to supply water to residents in Bandar Tun Razak.
