Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim warned Prime Minister Najib Razak not to block a "distinguished international panel" from entering the country and taking part in a special conference to be held at Parliament House on March 4 and 5 to evaluate the performance of the Election Commission and a Select Committee on electoral reform.
"There is no guarantee under this semi-authoritarian government, if Nick Xenophon was denied and at that time, he had an appointment to see the Election Commission officials as well as to meet a minister. But I hope that they won't be barred," Anwar told a press conference on Tuesday.
Anwar also said the Speaker of the Parliament had agreed to allow the conference to be held there and to inaugurate the International Conference on Malaysia's 13th General Election.
The panelists include Justice Marlon Reis from Brazil, Associate Prof Dr Gothom Arya from Thailand, Dr Mohamad Nasir Tamara from Indonesia, Damaso G Magbual from Philippines, Mobashar Jawed Akbar from India and Associate Prof Dr Cinton Fernandes from Australia.
