Nik Aziz: Nonsense that PAS rejects Anwar as PM

PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat today denied that the party's syura council is not in favour of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim becoming prime minister if the opposition pact were to win the upcoming 13th general election (GE).

NONENik Aziz (right), who is also the chairman of the top decision making body in PAS and Kelantan menteri besar, said claims as such were made in trying to cause a rift among the pact's partners.

"This is nonsense. I am the chairman of the syura council. Nothing was discussed to this effect," he told reporters in Kota Baharu today.

He was commenting on a news report in Mingguan Malaysia today which had quoted sources as saying the council had rejected the choice of Anwar as prime minister if the opposition were to win the GE.
Noh Omar: Possible DAP may reject Anwar
Meanwhile Selangor BN deputy chairman Noh Omar said he does not dismiss the possibility that DAP will side with PAS' Syura Council, which is reported to have rejected Anwar Ibrahim for the prime minister's post should the opposition coalition win the upcoming general election.
Noh, who is also agriculture and agro-based Industry minister, said it was public knowledge that in 1996, DAP chairman Karpal Singh said in Parliament that he had evidence of Anwar's involvement in a sodomy case and that the party may reveal it should Anwar become prime minister.
"It is not impossible that DAP will come forward with the evidence if Anwar becomes prime minister," he told reporters after attending a 1Malaysia Licence Aid (BL1M) briefing at the Padang Astaka, in Tanjong Karang today.
NONENoh (right) was asked to comment on a front-page report in Mingguan Malaysia today which reported that PAS' syura council (highest decision making body in PAS) had rejected Anwar for the post should the opposition win the GE.
However, the report said that although the council's stand on the matter could not be verified, it was allegedly made during a closed-door discussion involving several council members recently.
