No witch-hunt if Pakatan wins, says Anwar

The former deputy prime minister, however, said that the opposition pact would take back money looted from the public coffers.
SHAH ALAM: Pakatan Rakyat will not go on a witch-hunt if the opposition pact wins the general election, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim said.
“We want to win so that we can implement people’s friendly programmes for Malaysians, [and] not [seek] vengeance,” Anwar said at the Pakatan Rakyat convention here today.
Anwar, a former deputy prime minister, however, said that Pakatan would take back money stolen by politicians and return it to the public coffers.
“For example, the millions used by the National Feedlot Corporation was supposedly meant for genuine cattle farm operators. We will take back the money and give it to those deserving.
“It is the same thing with taxi permits. We will take the permits away from taxi companies owned by crony companies and give them straight to the drivers,” said Anwar.
He, however, assured government contractors that he would not revise any deals done based on the principles of the rule of law.
“But we will review contracts if they were found [to be awarded] under some dubious circumstances; for example, the agreements signed with the independent power producers… [we will] weed out monopoly in the country,” he said.
The opposition leader also criticised Umno, saying the party now lacks good leaders in its ranks.
“Tell me, do they [Umno] have any man of integrity like [Kelantan Menteri] Nik Aziz Nik Mat? Or do they have anyone who is committed to transparency and efficiency like [Penang Chief Minister] Lim Guan Eng?
“These are the leaders we provide in Pakatan, who are also the pillar of our strength,” said Anwar.
He also defended Nik Aziz against recent attacks by Umno which claimed that the veteran PAS leader had labelled Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia recipients as animals.
“All Nik Aziz said was don’t treat people as livestock but the Umno-controlled media continued to accuse him of calling the people as animals,” he said.
