Ronnie Liu's aide announces shock resignation in Penang

In a surprising move today, Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu's special assistant, Jafrei Nordin, announced his resignation, citing dissatisfaction towards his boss and the DAP.

Jafrei said he chose Penang to announce his resignation instead of Selangor as he was worried about his family’s and his own safety, as it would bring about "big implications".

NONEHowever, Liu when contacted denied that Jafrei was his special assistant, saying he terminated all such appointments under his exco portfolio three years ago.
Jafrei announced his resignation this morning at the home of Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng (above), who had quit PKR in 2009.

"I will be submitting my resignation letter in a couple of days’ time," Jafrei added.

He said he was quitting due to a "lack of confidence and disappointment" with Liu, who he said had failed to explain the various allegations of graft and misuse of power.
'Liu, Selangor DAP have no respect for PAS, PKR'
"Liu and the Selangor DAP have no respect for PAS and PKR in the state, as he alleged there were intentions by certain quarters inside the party to unseat the two parties.
"As a result of this, the state DAP aims to hold on as a dominant party in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition in the state," he told reporters.
Jafrei said he knew about every single plan by Liu and the DAP to undermine PAS and PKR in Selangor.

Those plans, he added, include an effort to persuade Malay leaders, such as former Kita president Zaid Ibrahim, to contest under the DAP ticket in the coming general election.
NONEJafrei, who claimed to be a DAP activist since 2004, said the party was planning to form a new state government in Selangor by sidelining Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, and that the party has labelled him as ‘Khalid Gagap’ or ‘Nervous Khalid’.

“Let the public judge the DAP by themselves,” he said.

When contacted, Liu denied that Jafrei was his special assistant, saying he terminated all such appointments under his exco portfolio three years ago.

Liu said he ended the services of all his assistants after the sacking of former Klang municipal councillor Tee Boon Hock, who allegedly misused Liu's letterhead on July 31, 2010,  to secure contracts for his cronies.
Jafrei challenged to show proof of appointment

He challenged Jafrei to show if he had received any payment or allowances for the position that he claimed to hold.

Liu also asked Jafrei why he held the press conference in Penang if he claimed to be ‘Ronnie Liu’s special assistant’.

“He is talking nonsense and is a liar,” Liu said of Jafrei.

“He was introduced by a friend in 2008 and said he wanted to help as a volunteer, claiming he was an engineer and was clever.

“After testing him out in one or two cases, we found it was not true and so I have never used his services after that," Liu said.

"I also heard he had secretly, behind my back, printed a business card stating that he is my assistant.”

Liu said Jafrei knew nothing about the state administration, otherwise he would have known that there was a good relationship among the exco members and the menteri besar, whether they were from DAP, PAS or PKR.
