Hisham slammed for inaction on political violence
Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has lamented the lack of action by authorities over reports of political violence that she has made over the past year.
She said that in March alone, there were four police reports filed regarding political violence against her campaign staff in Lembah Pantai.
She urged Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein (right) to finally initiate action and asked him to stop making "ridiculous statements".
"Stop making statements like there is more political violence to come. Hishammuddin is not doing his job. He should take proper measures to make sure these incidents are not repeated," she said.
Among the four incidences that took place this month includes the breaking in of PKR's operations room in Jalan Kurau, Bangsar, in March 28 which caused a loss of RM20,000 in party assets.
A party staff at SMK Sri Pantai was also attacked by assailants on March 29, requiring him to have five stitches on his head from the assault.
BN's muted response
These incidences add on to previous cases of political violence stretching back to last year, among them young activist Adam Adli who had been punched while trying to pacify an evicted family at the Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS) flats in Lembah Pantai.
Eggs and stones were also allegedly hurtled towards a PKR camp during a May 2012 ceramah in Pantai Permai.
However, all these cases have been met with a muted response from the ruling coalition, with only Umno supreme council member Saifuddin Abdullah (right) speaking out against it.
"Only Saifuddin Abdullah has spoken out against this, where are the others' voices?" Nurul Izzah queried.
