After tussle with DAP, PKR’s Chua Jui Meng to get seat in Johor

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — Johor PKR chief Datuk Chua Jui Meng will get a seat to contest in the southern state, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has said in signalling that the issue of Chua’s tussle with political ally DAP has been resolved.
Azmin said the PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with Chua on Tuesday over the matter.
“... Anwar has met and had a long discussion with Chua (Jui Meng) last night about that matter.
“We need to see the political scenario that happened there and will offer a suitable area for Chua (Jui Meng) in Johor,” Azmin was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian yesterday.
Chua (picture) had previously engaged in a public spat with Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau over the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat in the state, but Anwar announced last month that DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang would contest the seat instead in Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) drive to make inroads into the state known as Barisan Nasional’s (BN) stronghold.
Last week, Johor PKR was reported by news portal Malaysiakini as nudging Chua towards the Segamat seat, which party insiders believe it can win.
Segamat is now held by the MIC’s Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam who won the seat against a DAP candidate by a 2,991-vote majority in Election 2008.
Chua won the Bakri seat in Johor by an overwhelming 19,059 votes in the 2004 polls, but stayed out of Election 2008.
Johor-born Chua, an MCA veteran who joined PKR in 2009, appeared to have withdrawn from the public eye after Anwar’s announcement on the Gelang Patah seat, fuelling speculation about the ex-minister’s political future.
Several news sites reported last Saturday that Chua’s deputy chief Dr Ahmad Faidhi Saidi will be taking over his duties in Johor.
But Dr Ahmad last Sunday quickly moved to assure grassroots members that Chua was merely on leave and remains the Johor PKR chief.
He had said that Johor PKR leaders remain in touch with Chua but have not indicated when he will resume his duties.
