Gary Lim probed for ‘impersonation’

MCA's candidate for the Pandan seat is under investigation by the Malaysian Bar for allegedly impersonating a partner of a law firm.
PETALING JAYA: MCA’s quest of defending its Pandan parliamentary seat has hit a snag following information that its candidate Gary Lim is being investigated by the Malaysian Bar.
The 39-year-old lawyer is being probed by the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board (ASDB).
A source told FMT that Lim is being allegedly investigated for “misrepresentation and impersonating a partner of a large law firm in Kuala Lumpur”.
The legal firm had lodged a police report against Lim somewhere around late last year or early this year.
According to the source, Lim had misrepresented himself as a lawyer when he was working in a multinational company then.
“He had also obtained the letterhead from the law firm to impersonate a lawyer,” said the source.
A complaint against Lim was filed with the Bar Council’s disciplinary committee several days ago.
The source revealed that Lim maintains his innocence.
Lim is slated to defend the Pandan seat after MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek dropped incumbent Ong Tee Keat in favour of the newcomer.
Pandan is the sole parliamentary seat that MCA had won in 2008. Ong beat Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud of PKR with a majority of 2,961 votes.
This time around, PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli is vying for the seat.
Despite numerous attempts, both Lim and Chua could not be reached for comment.
Meanwhile, Rafizi told FMT that he would hold a press conference on this matter outside the nomination centre tomorrow.
“I will furnish the documents to prove the allegation against Lim,” he said.
