KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah Indian lawyer and activist Jude Marcel is trying his luck as an independent in a Chinese majority state seat of Api Api in a five cornered fight.
Barisan Nasional's Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai of Parti Bersatu Sabah will be defending the seat.
Marcel said that he was contesting the seat to bring environmental issues to next level.
``We not only have to fight environment issues in court but we need to change the law. This can only be done in parliament and state assembly,'' said Marcel who will be using the television as his symbol..
It will not be an easy task for Marcel against Dr Yee and another local giant Christina Liew of PKR who are seen as the main contenders together with SAPP's Wong Yit Ming and Philip Chong of Sabah STAR.
Api Api comes under the Kota Kinabalu parliament seat which is seeing a straight fight between Sabah DAP chief Jimmy Wong and Chin Teck Ming of Barisan Nasional.
In the Likas state seat also under Kota Kinabalu, former chiefminister Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee of SAPP is facing a four-cornered fight with Barisan Chin Su Yin, DAP's Junz Wong Hon Yun, and STAR's Ho Chong Shun.
Facing another four-cornered fight is the Luyang state seat where MCA's Datuk Agnes Shim will be taking on SAPP's Melanie Chia who also has to contend with DAP's Hiew King Cheu and STAR's Jeffrey Jamion.-star
