Kuantan paralysed by water disruptions

Kuantan paralysed by water disruptions
Kuantan has been bogged down by frequent water disruptions despite promises by the authorities to find a solution.
The website Pahangdaily reports that the frequent disruptions have caused public anger.
Residents have also complained of inaction by Pahang water concessionaire PAIP.
The latest development brings back the controversial privatisation of the Pahang Water Supply Department to PAIP, which critics say led to current crisis.
“I am disappointed... the Pahang government wants to sell water to Selangor but its people are suffering from water problems,” lamented a civil servant.
Many were also irritated by prime minister Najib Razak's recent promise to solve Kelantan’s water woes if the BN were returned to power there.
“Pahang is facing a situation worse than what previously thought. Now the whole of Kuantan is facing water problem,” the report by Pahangdaily added.
On its website, PAIP said the water disruption was due to upgrading works at Rumah Pam Kobat in Sungai Lembing.
But Pahangdaily questioned why the disruptions lasted for over three weeks.
“When it is the opposition state, the [traditional] media will quickly play up the issue. When it is the prime minister’s home state, they become timid and refuse to expose for fear of affecting votes for BN at the 13th general election,” it added.
Harakahdaily had earlier that frequent water disruptions also affecting Jengka and Mentakab.
