‘Live and die in Pekan’ Najib mocks Anwar

The Barisan Nasional chairman said that Anwar Ibrahim's decision to leave Permatang Pauh speaks volumes of his 'principles and loyalty'.
FULL REPORT
KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is feeling insecure in his own constituency of Permatang Pauh, claimed Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Tun Razak today.
“He is abandoning the people who supported him all this while. If he can leave Permatang Pauh, what is there to talk about his principles and loyalty,” Najib said after chairing the BN presidential council meeting at the PWTC here today.
As for him, Najib said that he would never dream of leaving Pekan.
“Politically speaking, I will live and die in Pekan,” he said.
Recently, Anwar announced that he would be contesting for a Perak parliamentary seat in the 13th general election.
He also admitted that his decision may upset some of his supporters in Permatang Pauh but vowed to explain his move to the voters soon.
Earlier, Najib told reporters that BN would be launching its manisfesto on Saturday, which would focus on improving the economy and the living standards of the people.
“It will be based on our national transformation agenda. It is our promise to the people and we are committed to fulfilling our promises once we receive the mandate of the voters,” he said.
He also said that BN would announce its list of candidates “sooner than usual” to allow aspirants time to prepare themselves better.
“It will also allow us to see public reaction to our candidates and minimise problems,” said Najib.
However, he was coy when asked whether BN could win two-thirds majority in the general election, saying he was cautiously optimistic about it.
“We will win big but we have to work hard to minimise internal problems in the party,” said Najib.
On allegations that some quarters may cause problems during the polling day, he urged everyone to respect the Malaysian electoral process.
“Please respect our parliamentary democracy. Uphold its integrity and allow voters to make their choices freely. Don’t create a scene by scaring and stopping people from voting,” he said.
