MCA sees red over ‘giving IC’ photos

The photographs allude that foreigners are being issues temporary ICs outside the MCA headquarters.
PETALING JAYA: A set of photographs have appeared on Facebook depicting a group of people lining up outside the MCA headquarters. And the caption reads: “MCA giving out temporary IC to foreigners?”
One of the images also contained dialogue bubbles which stated: “Mari register free IC”, “Dream come true” and “BN win, we get one condo free”.
Seeing red over this, MCA would file a police report over the photograph, which it deems as being defamatory.
“We consider the photo uploaded and shared by the Facebook group ‘We are Malaysian!’ as libelous and defamatory,” said MCA treasurer-general Tan Chai Ho.
“As such, MCA headquarters will be lodging a police report as well as asking the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take action against the creator of the said photo and the moderator of the said Facebook group,” he added.
Tan said the photograph alluded that MCA is giving out MyKads to foreigners, an allegation which is baseless.
Tan explained that the second photo shows the outlet in Wisma MCA which provides photocopying and photographing services for the foreign workers while the third photo shows the sign in the shop in Wisma MCA showing that they provide photocopy and photographing services.
“I would like to point out that the Embassy of Nepal is one of the tenants in Wisma MCA and they only provide consular services related with passports for their countrymen.
“In reality, it is an outlet which provides photocopying and photographing service for these foreigners which has nothing to do with MCA, MCA headquarters or Wisma MCA in any way,” he said.
Tan also condemned the actions of spreading false messages on the internet with the intention of discrediting the image of MCA.
“This sort of behavior is seriously damaging to Malaysia’s political and cyber-space culture,” he said.
The police report will be filed at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters this afternoon by Hew Yit Hwa, senior property manager of Huaren Resources Sdn Bhd, the unit which manages Wisma MCA.
He has filed a report with MCMC as well.
