KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 — MIC will field deputy minister Datuk S.K. Devamany in the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat which the party had previously lost, while its president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel will be taking on the relatively safer Cameron Highlands federal seat.
“I wanted to go to Sungai Siput, but finally I decided Cameron Highlands. There was a decision made by somebody,” Palanivel said, without specifying who had made the decision.
Palanivel was asked why he did not go for the Sungai Siput seat where former MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu had suffered a shock defeat in 2008 to PSM’s Dr Michael Jeyakumar.
Palanivel expressed confidence in winning all of the nine parliamentary seats and almost all of the 18 state seats the party will be contesting in, with 14 of them new faces.
