Ng Yen Yen Dropped - Tourism Malaysia Celebrates

I received information this morning that over in Tourism Malaysia almost the entire staff of the Ministry of Tourism are celebrating the fact that their Minister Ng Yen Yen will be dropped as a candidate in the coming General Elections. She is the incumbent in Raub, Pahang.

The entire staff at the Ministry of Information is also celebrating that their Minister Rais Yatim will also be dropped as a candidate. 

I really hope that the celebrations at the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Information do not go to waste. These two Ministers are highly, highly unpopular. 

It is also to be appreciated that Wanita UMNO Chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has decided to throw in her shoes and not contest the elections.  The truth is Kak Ijat was dropped.

Anyway, a lot of people are already sighing with relief at just these few changes in our candidate profile. I hope there will be more changes.

I would like to reproduce something from Sri Tri Buana's Blog. Tri Buana is a history buff who has vast knowledge of the ancient Roman Empire. 

He has some thoughts on the wish list for dropping candidates. In his Blog 'Calon - Siapa Masuk Siapa Keluar'  he says :  

"Saya teringat zaman Rom dulu. Setelah Sulla memenangi Perang Saudara dengan parti Cinna dan Marius, beliau menjadi diktator Rom. Beliau membalas dendam dan membunuh ramai yang tidak menyokongnya. Ada kes mangsa dibunuh bukan kerana politik, tetapi dendam dari pihak Sulla walaupun bukan Sulla sendiri.

Rakyat Rom takut kerana tidak tahu siapa seterusnya akan dibunuh, lalu mereka minta Sulla membuat senarai, atau list siapa yang beliau ingin hapuskan. List ini terkenal dalam sejarah sebagai 'proscriptio' atau proscription. 

Esoknya, Sulla menampal proscriptionnya di dinding-dinding kota Rom. Ada yang tersenarai bukan kerana politk pun. Ada yang tersenarai kerana kaya dan Sulla serta kuncu-kuncunya ingin merampas hartanya.

Jadi proscription yang diberi kepada PM(jika PM membaca blog) merupakan persepsi awam terhadap sesetengah ahli politik. Malah blogger bersetuju bahawa ada yang mereka setuju dan ada yang mereka tidak setuju sesetengah calon itu digugurkan. Just another opinion.

Saya rasa elok jika calon yng tidak dikira winnable itu diberi ciri-cirinya. Ciri-cirinya mudah. Calon mesti tidak mempunyai banyak isu peribadi, bersih dan kelihatan bersih, tidak rasuah, walaupun mungkin boleh menang di kawasannya jika terpalit imej yang negatif memberi kesan kepada imej BN. 

BN perlu berubah. Sesiapa yang ingin menjadi calon perlu benar-benar mempunyai semangat untuk berkhidmat. Tidak ada lagi 'Billionaire Boys Club' dan tidak boleh menjadikan jawatan mereka sebagai stepping stone untuk menjadi kaya raya.

Jika ini boleh dilakukan, akhirnya BN sendiri akan jadi winnable."
