Noh: Return Selangor to BN to resolve land issue in Sg Buaya
BUKIT BERUNTUNG- Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar said the BN government would assist former settlers of the Sungai Buaya Felda land scheme to resolve the issue involving their land which was confiscated by the Pakatan Rakyat state government, if BN returns to power in Selangor.
He regarded the state government's action as cruel towards those affected.
Noh, who is also Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, was speaking to reporters after handing out a consolatory payment of RM5,000 each to 363 former Sungai Buaya Felda settlers at their village, near here, today.
The consolatory payments amounting to RM1.82 million were given by Felda in recognition of their contribution in developing the Sungai Buaya Felda land scheme.
The land of 419.57 hectares in size should have been developed by a real estate developer in 1996, but the project was abandoned in 1998 due to the economic downturn.
Noh said that during the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat by-election in 2010, BN tried to solve the problem when a developer was willing to continue the housing project.
He said the developer was prepared to pay RM160,000 for every acre of the former settlers' land to be developed and each of them was given an initial payment of RM50,000.
Unfortunately, he said, the developer was informed by the Selangor Land and Mines Department that the land had been confiscated by the state government because the developer failed to pay the quit rent for nine years amounting to RM7 million.
Former Felda Sungai Buaya settler, Mat Som Moh, 76, when met by Bernama said he very much hoped that the BN government could help return his plot of land.
He also thanked Felda for the contribution to the villagers who have been living in the village for over 40 years.
