PAS, PKR face three-cornered fight in Sungai Acheh

PAS will meet its fellow Pakatan Rakyat ally PKR in a three-cornered fight in the Sungai Acheh state seat by fielding its Penang Youth chief Yusni Mat Piah, 38 (below).

NONEThe decision came after state PKR chief Mansor Othman last night announced Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin, more popularly known as Chegubard, as the candidatefor the rural Malay seat in the Nibong Tebal constituency.

PAS state commissioner Salleh Man made the declaration in Pongsu Seribu, the party's stronghold in Tasek Gelugor at about 10pm today.

"We are confident our candidates can sweep clean all the seats against Umno," Salleh said.

He noted that the decision was made after a long meeting with the PAS leadership in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

azlan"Our decision is final," he said, adding that the central leadership has also decided on the candidate list for the whole country.

Salleh further announced that the party would contest two parliamentary and five state seats in Penang in the 13th general election, fixed for May 5.

The candidates for the two parliamentary seats are Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, 32, Penang PAS Youth secretary for Kepala Batas and Abdul Rahman Maidin, 66, former National Malay Chamber of Commerce president for Tasek Gelugor.

Speaking in front of a small crowd as many were prohibited from attending due to heavy downpour earlier and muddy grounds, 59-year-old Salleh added he will be defending his state seat of Permatang Pasir.

Candidates for the four remaining state seats include Roshidi Hussein (Penaga), 42, Arshad Md Salleh (Permatang Berangan), 62, Asnah Hashim (Bayan Lepas), 66, and Zahadi Mohamad (Sungai Dua), 57.

Each candidate, after his name was announced, came forward to give a small speech.
