PAS state commissioner Salleh Man made the declaration in Pongsu Seribu, the party's stronghold in Tasek Gelugor at about 10pm today.

"We are confident our candidates can sweep clean all the seats against Umno," Salleh said.

He noted that the decision was made after a long meeting with the PAS leadership in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

"Our decision is final," he said, adding that the central leadership has also decided on the candidate list for the whole country.

Salleh further announced that the party would contest two parliamentary and five state seats in Penang in the 13th general election, fixed for May 5.

The candidates for the two parliamentary seats are Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, Penang PAS Youth secretary for Kepala Batas and Abdul Rahman Maidin, former Malay Chamber of Commerce president for Tasek Gelugor.

Speaking in front of a small crowd as many were prohibited from attending due to heavy downpour earlier and muddy grounds, Salleh added he will be defending his state seat of Permatang Pasir.

Candidates for the four remaining state seats include Roshidi Hussein (Penaga), Arshad Md Salleh (Permatang Berangan), Asnah Hashim (Bayan Lepas) and Zahadi Mohamad (Sungai Dua).

Each candidate, after his name was announced, came forward to give a small speech.-malaysiakini

Patriot88 - PKR & PAS, please sort this out before it is too late. By hook or by crook, we want to see a one to one fight with UMNO. Pool all your resources together.

Saintonthego - Such Strange bed fellows. Trying to screw each other while neighbour BN is laughing away.

ghkok - Wait, Wait, Wait. The outcome COULD BE (1) BN and PKR split votes, and PAS WINS. Or (2) BN and PAS split votes, and PKR WINS. Or (3) PAS and PKR split votes, and BN wins. Pakatan, it's a stroke of GENIUS ! Excellent strategy !! I knew you guys have something up your sleeve.

cheers.
