Wanita Umno deputy chief Kamilia Ibrahim is standing as an independent for the Kuala Kangsar Parliamentary seat.
She will be in a three-cornered fight with Khalil Idham Lim (PAS) and Wan Mohammad Khairil Anuar Wan Ahmad (BN).
The BN' decision not to field her in a seat of her choice and instead offered her the state seat of Bukit Chandan triggered her drastic move.
Previously she had expressed disappointment at BN's failure to field her as a candidate, saying it shows that the coalition did not recognise the contributions of the highest hierarchy in the wing.
Yesterday, BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak said that the offer showed that she was appreciated by BN and it came with a state cabinet post attached.
"She wanted to contest a parliamentary seat but we think it is more suitable for Kamilia to contest the state seat.
"After all, the late Lim Keng Yaik accepted the post of state executive council member when he was Gerakan president," said Najib.
Kamilia is known as a staunch supporter of former Wanita Umno head Rafidah Aziz, the former MP of Kuala Kangsar.
She is also known for her calls for current Wanita Umno head Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to step down over the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal.
