Back up your claims, Guan Eng tells ex-judge

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has urged former court of appeals judge Mohd Noor Abdullah to show proof to back his claims that the Chinese community have attempted to "seize political power" from the Malays in last Sunday's election.

"Can Mohd Noor show proof to back up his accusation?" Lim (left) queried in a statement issued today.

"His remarks on threatening to seize the assets and rights of non-Malays is another massive cover-up of the failure to address corruption by Malays, Chinese and Indians in BN," said the Penang chief minister.

He also called into question Mohd Noor's achievements while sitting on the complaints committee of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"What has he done as a member of the complaints committee of the MACC?" he asked.

Lim also said that exploiting racial hatred was the easiest way to "hide the failures" of the MACC and the Election Commission (EC) in curbing corruption and money politics.

"Why has Mohd Noor not pressed for action to be taken against Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud's (right) refusal to cooperate with MACC, and who attacked MACC as being dishonest and naughty?" he asked.

He challenged Umno to "prove its 1Malaysia credentials” by taking action against Mohd Noor for the latter's statements.

"Should Umno fail to do so, then Umno should not blame MCA or Gerakan for failing to gain non-Malay support, but instead bear full responsibility for the electoral collapse of MCA and Gerakan," Lim said.
