Beware: Umno racist conmen at work

May 13, 1969 is the Day of the Great Lie. May 2013 has also seen days of big lies. Then and now, Umno has not changed. May 13 is the day Umno’s racists took their revenge on all Malaysians after the Umno-led Alliance saw their political power eroded. That was the day Umno racists put the blame on the Malaysian Chinese community to hide the fact that Malay voters had also rejected Umno.

Now, after the May 5 elections, the same bullying racist voices have arisen: “Chinese tsunami”, “Malaysian Chinese are ungrateful”, “Close down Chinese schools”, “Malaysian Chinese must beware of a backlash”, “Malaysian Chinese want political power as well as economic power”, “What more does Kit Siang want?”
These are not the voices of the modern, progressive Malaysia that tourism and investment officials sell. These are the voices of the racist Umno conman, the voices of Mahathirism.
They tell a lie about the distribution of ethnic political power in Parliament.

Who has the power in Parliament?

2013 - ethnic distribution of political power
2013 – ethnic distribution of political power
Despite the fact that ethnic Malay leadership and ethnic Malay politicians dominate Parliament, the Utusan and the Umno racists keep harping on ethnic Chinese political power.
The DAP and Lim Kit Siang, particularly, have been the targets ever since 1969 — especially with the lie that Kit Siang was responsible for the riots of 1969. Plain simple reasoning tells you that winners do not need to provoke a riot — only losers do. Umno were the losers: they lost control of Perak and Selangor, lost Malay votes, and lost the popular vote. Simple reasoning tells you that a small minority cannot take control of Parliament, but sore losers will sell you a lie.
Half a million Malay-Muslim voters in 1969 chose to vote for PMIP (now PAS). Another Half a million voters, multi-racial but mostly Chinese, chose the DAP, Gerakan and the Ipoh-based PPP. But Umno chose to tell the lie that the Chinese were about to take over the country.

In 2013, Umno’s racist right-wing, led by Utusan Malaysia, have again fallen back on the only argument that they can find to cover up their own failings, by fanning the flames of ethnic discontent.
Again, it is the DAP and Lim Kit Siang that bear the brunt of their attack. But the figures give the lie to Utusan’s race-baiting about the Malaysian Chinese community’s dreams of achieving political control.
When all else fails, Umno’s racist hordes try to blame the Malaysian Chinese community.
But this time, the Malaysian voter is not buying it.

And the fear factor no longer works, the young refuse to be cowed.
