MELAKA – The Election Commission (EC) today denied the allegation by the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) representative that the Melaka Election Commission (EC) staff had counted the early ballot papers at the Alor Gajah District Police Headquarters (IPD) on April 30.
Its director, Haelmy Mohd Hanifah said the agent who had come to observe the process of keeping the early ballot boxes at the IPD lock-up had misunderstood the task carried out by several EC staff at the location.
He said the EC staff concerned were carrying out last-minute checks on the normal ballot papers to ensure the accuracy of the names of the candidates and parties printed for polling day on Sunday.
“The representative concerned had misunderstood, thinking that the EC staff concerned were counting the early ballot papers whereas they were actually checking on the normal ballot papers,” he told Bernama, here.
He disclosed this when commenting on the police report lodged by an agent for the PKR for the Ayer Limau state constituency at the Lubok China Police Station on the matter.
Haelmy said counting of the early ballot papers would begin as early as 4pm on Sunday while the normal ballot papers and postal votes would be counted at 5pm. – Bernama/Sundaily
