YOURSAY 'Under BN, the four factors common to projects are delays, excessive costs, costs ballooning and shoddy workmanship.'
Pakatan brands MAHB as 'liars' over KLIA2 delay
James_3392: AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes is right that this KLIA2 low cost terminal is not going to deliver on time and is going to seriously burst its budget.
Why is Fernandes always right and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) always wrong?
Fernandes said he will take about 30 months to build his LCCT (low-cost carrier terminal) and it would cost about RM1.6 billion. Why didn't MAHB give it to him?
At least, Fernandes could have been proven wrong and made to pay for the cost overruns. Both Utusan Malaysia and New Straits Timeswill have plenty of reasons to run him down.
Odin: To date, the completion of the project is 21 months behind. Twenty-one months!
But what's new? Under the highly corrupt BN government, the four factors common to projects and acquisition of such things as defence items, are - delays, excessive costs, costs ballooning and shoddy workmanship.
Sarkeethartee: New tagline... Now everyone can wait.
Samuel Ng: Can anyone here remember the last major project the government or a government-linked company (GLC) undertook that was completed as scheduled and within budget?
KB Menon: We should have let Fernandes handle the second LCCT project himself, like what he wanted in the beginning; the airport would have been completed, up and running, two years ago.
Now it is a crony project called KLIA2 with bloated costs and no end in sight, just more and more excuses. Imagine, a low-cost airport project costing billions of ringgit.
Kit P: Cost went from RM1.7 billion estimate to RM4 billion. How much of it has gone into the pockets of cronies? How much, or more like how little of it, went into actual construction operations?
Heavenly King: The planners are nuts to build the airport for budget airlines so far away that the taxi fare to go there is higher than the air fare.
YUNoAnon: Come on, don't be naive, people. Don't say you didn't see this coming. Before the election, you will be promised anything and everything. After election, "sorry, but there has been an unexpected issue so we have to delay it".
How is it that this issue was not detected earlier?
Confused: The longer they delay the more the opportunity for someone to make more money. It is so obvious that this is a scam and there is no intention at all to keep costs within the budget.
As far as government projects are concerned, the proposed budget is all for show.
Hajile Leumas: The Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) CEO should resign and perhaps salvage what's left of his reputation in the eyes of the rakyat.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) must now be involved in auditing the project and leave no stone unturned and then prosecute those who are responsible for the cost overrun of 235 percent to date.
Let's wait and see what the interim transport minister (Hishammuddin Hussein) will have to say, or not say.
FellowMalaysian: MAHB is a good example of how BN's continued support of cronies with ‘baggage' has resulted in the current state of affairs which has precipitated in the indefinite delay in the delivery of KLIA2.
MAHB is headed by an old ally of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and is managed by a bunch of self-serving cronies who are more interested in staying in power, wresting control and wielding influence than looking into the performance and returns of the company.
These are people who prolong their unwelcome stay through their inglorious links with BN leaders.
AirAsia's Fernandes, a pragmatic and experienced operator in the budget airline industry, has had many a tussle with MAHB's heads the past couple of years and not just over issues pertaining to KLIA2.
Major problems concerning MAHB's forays will continue to persist if its top management team is not revamped entirely.
Ssaniku: Is it an Umno crony who won the contract on a negotiated basis rather than by open tender? The answer will speak for itself.
LittleGiant: Why not the government send some of its so-called 'experts' on a 'study' tour (of course all paid, inclusive of their shopping and private entertainment expenses) to the best known low-cost airport terminals around the world and blow away another RM40 or RM50 million?
After all, has the government had any problem adding millions and even billions of ringgit to the cost of a project undertaken by it?
John Goh TC: Only few days ago, MAHB CFO Faizal Mansor wasawarded by FinanceAsia as the best Malaysian CFO (chief financial officer). This is biggest joke of all time.

Who in the FinanceAsia made such awards? What were the criteria for the Best CFO award? Is cost over-run one of them?
Reason: Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, if this is why I should give you my vote, then it is a vote worth giving.
If this is what the opposition is good at, then I say well done and keep up the good work, the rakyat will support you.
If you go to the IGP (inspector-general of police) and say, let's look at crime and how we can help and prevent and protect the rakyat, I would say you deserve to be in power.
But all these rallies, they are eating into the police need to set aside cops, cops who are badly needed to fight crime.
Also if you find death in custody a sin, I agree, but do not protect the criminals by politicising it. For the moment, this is the first well done vote from me, a die-hard supporter of BN.
Mushiro: Obviously MAHB was campaigning for Umno when they announced in March that the KLIA2 will be completed in June this year.
These are irresponsible people who mislead Malaysians and are not held accountable for their projects delays and lies in their statements. - Malaysiakini
