MAY 6: A new dawn for Malaysia or a new reign of TERROR?

MAY 6: A new dawn for Malaysia or a new reign of TERROR?
Indeed, we need no rocket scientist to tell us what the 6th day of May will bring us – for all Malaysians. If anything, we will sing in unison for the first time since the early days of Merdeka, the very song of Cat Stevens – the lyrics by Eleanor Farjeon:
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word.
And the word is, ‘We won the long and hard battle for justice and peace, harmony and progress for all Malaysians.
So we need no cynical skeptic and recalcitrant politician to preach that a new dawn will not be for all Malaysians. We need no paid blogger to be the mouthpieces of sore losers as much as we need no patronizing media to spell doom.
For the spirit of all Malaysians – blind to color and creed, but respectful of our unity in diversity, will jubilantly light a new dawn in the history pages of this nation.
Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dew fall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet gardens
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass.
For the battle we Malaysians fought is not for one day but over three decades. For the punishment we took was more than lives. For the price we paid was our determination to leave behind a better Malaysia for all Malaysians in the centuries to come. And so we will join all our leaders who paid heavy prices; we will join all citizens who never abandoned this dream as we continue to sing:
Ours is the sunlight, ours is the morning
Born of one light, Bapa Merdeka saw play
God’s reward of a new day for all Malaysians now and forever.
Well, as we await the voting day and hold our breaths for the vote count, such then is the apprehension and hope of all Malaysians from rural to urban and urban to suburbs; that determination hope and prayer that we will succeed to be able to sing “Morning has broken..” on the sixth day of May.
The unprecedented and ever swelling crowds have come for each ceremah. The crowds came too for the historic Bersih rallies. We do not discount the brave Hindraf plough either.
Yes we have one man who took all the beatings in prison too. And we have many who stood the ground no matter how much of temptation that kept coming their way for an easy lifestyle.
We have several citizens and one foreigner who lost their lives. Altantuya Shaariibuu will be 35 on May 6 and her father has pleaded to Malaysians to give her justice. But those deaths were not in vain as these only gave us all the more reason to persevere.
Men and women of honor, although retired from high offices, saw the need of the hour and joined ranks with us Malaysians. Their courage was not to be washed away in vain either.
And with these thoughts fresh in our minds and sealed close to our hearts, we march on the 5th of May to fulfill our duty not just for each one of us; not just for the nation; not just for our King.
But we do so because it also determines what we will leave behind for the generations to come as this is what at the end of it all, counts – certainly not what we can take with us.
