IPOH, May 3 — The Perak police have opened an investigation paper on allegations that Election Commission (EC) personnel tampered with ballot boxes containing advanced ballot papers from the Manjung police headquarters yesterday.
State police contingent 13th General Election media spokesman Supt Maszely Minhad said the police were investigating the case under Section 4G of the Election Offences Act 1954.
“The district police chief has called on the two contesting candidates, EC officers and monitoring officers. They have negotiated on the matter and both sides are satisfied,” he told reporters at the state police contingent headquarters today.
However, the police were investigating to ensure the validity of the incident, he said.
Yesterday, a candidate from a contesting party lodged a police report at 2.30pm on the EC’s directive to its personnel to remove ballot boxes at the Manjung police headquarters. – Bernama
