The out-going IGP has issued a firm and straight “No” to any form of street protest. He, in warning anyone who may be harboring such thoughts as to take to the streets to demand for their re-instatement of democratic rights and justice, has also poignantly advised on the sanctity of democratic principles that will be safeguarded by the police.
The key definition of democratic systems is there will be no toppling of elected governments. It must be done through the due process of elections. Great! Well spoken and no one in his or her right frame of mind can pick a quarrel on this.
Why the silence on GE fraud?
However, at the same time, just wondering why is it that the guardians of the law in the country cannot demonstrate the same kind of resolve when the rakyat screamed “cheating BN!” in the Ge-13?
Why is it that when the rakyat seemingly surrounded some suspicious looking foreign nationals going to the polls, the rakyat was, as reported, sidelined and instead protection was given to the suspect voters?
Likewise it was reported in the on-line media – and almost going viral, the many snapshots of suspicious ballot boxes appearing in the booth of cars and yet the police chief did not immediately issue any statement or warning or promise to get to the bottom of this?
Are not reported incidents of fraud at the ballot box a serious affront on democracy? Are the alleged and reported incidents of cheating – like sudden blackouts and appearance of ballot bags, or the manhandling of some observers a direct assault on this nation’s sacred Constitution that guarantees the people a democratic and liberal access to choosing their government?
Sir do you not seee these as serious breaches to the security of our nation and our revered King?
Should the IGP then also not issue a firm order to the suspects who are alleged to be robbing this nation of its democracy? Or must he wait for the lodging of police reports before his team can roll the cameras?
And how about all the ultra-racists news and statements that are splashing in a particular newspaper? Should the IGP not immediately get his men and women in blue to swing into action and clamp down on the ‘naughty’ press people who obviously are testing sedition to the maximum? How come he has been so silent on this then?
Or how about taking action on Datuk Seri Najib fo screaming "Chinese tsunami"?
Lacks moral courage
You see Chief, let us take a lesson or more from the law keepers in the neighboring countries. Up north, at the heights of the battle between two political parties, the major capital was swarmped with a 'red protest'. From all across the country, as the folks started filling the capital in pickups and busses, the police gave top priority and ensured their road and physical safety. The police did not take any political sides. They diligently ensured that public safety was safeguarded and no trouble rouser derailed the citizens march for democracy.
Or if you do not like the up-North story, how about westwards. Remember how the Indonesian police fulfilled their duties to the dot when the rakyat took the responsibility to mop-clean their nation of a corrupt regime? Today, the country is well on thee road to greater economic recovery and progress.
So you see, can you blame the rakyat if they have second thoughts about the police force here in Malaysia? We are living in a netwoked information society. You cannot hide reality. People are enjoying the full advantages of being a well informed and networked community - thanks to the benefits of facebook and twitter, Sir.
So can you blame the rakyat for being overly critical of the hard working men and women in blue who sacrifice so much for the nation? Now you will understand Sir why the public think (unkindly thoigh), that PDRM is an UMNO power-bank.
It is such contrasting positions being taken by our leaders on issues of public interest that erodes the very credibility and reputation of our noble police force.
