Survey: 81pct want Anwar to quit politics

An overwhelming 81.62 percent of respondents in a survey want PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim to step down after Pakatan Rakyat failed to wrest federal power on May 5.

NONEA whopping 10,396 of the 12,736 people who participated on the online poll by business news website The Edgeagreed that Anwar ‘should call it quits as he made this pledge’.

The other 18.38 percent felt that Anwar should remain as Pakatan leader as the coalition had won more seats compared to the 2008 general election.

Respondents were asked to respond to this question: ‘Pakatan Rakyat has failed to conquer Putrajaya in GE13. Should Anwar Ibrahim step down as leader?’

NONEPrior to the 13th general election, Anwar had repeatedly said he would quit politics if Pakatan did not win the polls and that he would take up a teaching job.

In an interview with Malaysiakini the day after the election, however, he said he would not resign because his work “is not done”.

Pakatan has been organising rallies nationwide to protest the results of the election, which Anwar insists was “stolen” from the coalition due to alleged fraud.
