Zaid to Najib: No need to be racist, here's what you do

Zaid to Najib: No need to be racist, here's what you do
Lamenting the proliferation of "vile and seditious" statements in the past few days by UMNO leaders and their right-wing allies, former minister Zaid Ibrahim said his patience with prime minister Najib Razak was fast thinning.

Zaid, the former minister in charge of judiciary in the Prime Minister's Department, also hit out at former court of appeal judge Mohd Noor Abdullah over his 'warning' to the Chinese for ditching UMNO in the just concluded polls.

"I never realised that retired judges are also involved in part-time politics, although I believe this case to be a serious aberration," he said.

Saying many had given Najib the benefit of doubt by tolerating his "doublespeak", Zaid declared that enough was enough.

"This man [Najib] has to go. He is afraid to do the right thing for the country. His 1Malaysia is a sham. I blame him for allowing this mad, racist frenzy to pander to UMNO delegates so he can retain power at the party elections at the end of the year," said the prominent lawyer.

'Stay in power the Mahathir way'

Zaid reminded Najib that there was no need to embrace right wing views in order to deal a possible challenge from his deputy Muhyiddin Yasin at the next UMNO polls.

Instead, Zaid reminded Najib of the UMNO Supreme Council's wide powers overriding even "its own Constitution".

"So all the Prime Minister has to do is get the Supreme Council to pass a resolution prohibiting any challenge to his position. With his men intact in the Supreme Council (both elected and appointed by him), there would be no contest for the party presidency. Even if this resolution is 'flawed' it could not be challenged in court. [Former UMNO president] Dr Mahathir has made sure of that," remarked Zaid.

Zaid said by doing that, Malaysians would be spared from being victimised by UMNO leaders' racist politics.

"UMNO delegates are easily managed if their leader has the means to address their concerns.

"They are not terribly difficult to deal with," he quipped.
