Muar haze skyrockets to emergency levels at 746

Muar’s Air Pollutant Index (API) skyrocketed to an alarming 746 this morning, more than double the threshold the Department of Environment (DOE) labels ‘hazardous’.

Meanwhile, two stations in Malacca have also breached the dangerous barrier, Bandaraya Melaka (357) and Bukit Rambai (334) in the DOE's 7am report on its website.
NONEMuar, Johor has been particularlybadly hit by the haze, having closed its schools earlier last week while yesterday its API climbed to 578.
Johor itself is suffering badly from the smog, and critics say that the readings in just  four monitoring stations available are insufficient to give a clear picture of the overall situation in the other areas of the southern state.
The highest reading ever API recorded in Malaysian history is reportedly 839 in Kuching on Sept 23, 1997, when it was declared an emergency.

In such a situation the public would normally be advised to stay indoors and all businesses and schools would be ordered to close.

API in Johor, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Pahang continue to be poor with readings above 100, with Port Klang getting the worst reading in the Klang Valley at 188.
Overall the haze situation is not looking good as the readings show only 6 percent of the country is clocking good air quality.
