Why was Datuk's son not charged for rape - Seai Kie questions ruling, urges victim's dad to appeal
Wanita MCA would like to express our support for the family of rape and murder victim Chee Gaik Yap in their time of need, especially since the High Court has seen it fit to release the main suspect, Shahril Jaafar, of any wrongdoing. This will no doubt give the impression that justice has died.
The reason given by the High Court for Shahril’s acquittal was because there were traces of DNA from a third party. However, what we are unable to understand is why was he not prosecuted for other crimes such as rape when he was only acquitted from murder?
This ruling has triggered public discontent and confusion, and as such, we urge the police and the courts to clear this matter with the public. Failure to do so will chip away any confidence the public has in the judiciary.
Continue to appeal verdict
We also express our deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased, especially to her father who was clearly distraught at the decision by the court.
We empathize with the fact that he has waited 7 years to see justice served and we understand the disappointment he is going through.
We hope that he will not be giving up hope and that he will continue to appeal this case. If he does, we in MCA are willing to support and assist him all the way to ensure that justice is rightfully served to those who deserve it.
