Now EC wants voters to dip finger into indelible ink

The Election Commission (EC) today announced that voters will now have to dip their left index finger into the indelible ink for the Kuala Besut by-election.

NONEIn a statement today, EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof (left) said the commission will no longer apply the indelible ink on the finger as practised during the 13th general election.

“Having the voter dip their left index finger is an additional procedure to prevent voters from voting twice,” said Abdul Aziz.

Abdul Aziz, however, reminded that the EC will primarily check the identity cards of the voters and if their name appeared to be have been struck off from the electoral roll because they had already cast their vote, they would not be allowed to vote again.

azlan“This means the duplication of votes would not happen,” he assured.

The EC chairperson also today announced that the nomination for the July 24 by-election will take place at the Kompleks Rakan Muda, Kampung Raja Besut between 9am and 10am on Friday.

He also announced the formation of an enforcement team to monitor the parties campaigning in the by-election.

“Political parties and supporters are urged to abide by the laws, regulations and ethics in this by-election. The EC and police will give further directives from time to time.”

Yesterday, BN announcedformer civil servant and engineer Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman as its candidate while PAS announced local contractor and Kuala Besut treasurer Azlan Yusof as theirs.

Polling has been set on July 24.
