Water crisis in a land with abundant rainfall – A disgruntled citizen

Dear Sir/Madam

This is the very first time I am contacting a government office. I am tired. Tired of the government's attitude. Tired of suffering in silence. Tired of being treated like a bunch of dumbwits. Please note that by government I refer to both the state government (which is PKR for me) and the Federal government.

I live in Cheras, Selangor. For the past one week, more than 36 residential areas have been suffering with no water... Zilch, nada, tiada. NO WATER... in a land where rainfall is abundant.

We did not receive a notification, explanation or any information on when we can expect the situation to be rectified. We wait every day with hope. We are lucky to have relatives in other parts where we can at least go once a while. I feel sorry for those people who may have no one to go to.

We receive water once in a couple of days from a tanker. For some odd reason, the tanker comes only late at night, at about 1am. And sometimes he comes to the next lane but refuses to entertain the others. There is no schedule. It is a guessing game.

When some good Samaritan spots the water tanker, they will inform the others and then we rush to it, buckets, pails and all.

In a country that expects to be a developed nation by 2020, if this is the service of the major water supplier, dare I say I have no hope for this country. NONE. And what is sad is the government of the day, PKR or BN, has not said a word. No report has been requested, no assurance has been given to the people. Nothing. We wait in the dark for water!!

How can we run out of water is what baffles me. Until January we had heavy rainfall. The hot spell started exactly on January 29, 2014, one day before CNY, and one week later they tell us the water level is running low due to the dry spell. They expect us to bite the bullet and wait. THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

Who appointed Syabas as the management of OUR resources? When you appoint someone, do you ever check to see if they are doing their job? WHY DID WE ELECT YOU? THIS IS A MAJOR CRISIS. Thousands of us have no water. The mainstream media does not address it, nor does the government. So who should we turn to?

Why is no one investigating this? If someone had reassured us that things are being done, we would not be so upset. DO YOU EVEN LOOK AT FACEBOOK AND SEE HOW MANY COMPLAINTS THERE ARE? So many avenues of communication and all we get is bickering among the political parties.

At the end of the day, we need help. We are frustrated.
