Zulkifli Noordin has a theory regarding Anwar Ibrahim's decision not to contest against his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the PKR president post.
The former PKR MP believes that it is related to US President Barack Obama's visit to Malaysia this Saturday.
"I believe Anwar issued the statement that he is withdrawing because he does not want to become laughing stock for Obama when the US president sees this democratic circus never before seen in the world - where husband and wife contest against each other for the post of president," he added in a blog posting.
Zulkifli reiterated that the entire episode was a "charade" by Anwar to ensure that Wan Azizah remained as president.
Faced with a five-year jail sentence for his sodomy conviction, he said Anwar wanted to ensure that someone he trusted headed the party for his own political survival.
"Although (current deputy president) Azmin Ali is Anwar's blue-eyed-boy, Azizah has proven her loyalty and that she is prepared to do anything for her husband.
"Anwar wants to ensure that when he is released from prison in 2020, there is still a political party waiting for him," he added.
It was speculated that Anwar had entered the presidential race to prevent Azmin from mounting a challenge against Wan Azizah.
Zulkifli also said the team formed by secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution, vice-president Nurul Izzah and strategy director Rafizi Ramli sent the signal to the grassroots that "Istana
Segambut" (the name given to the Anwar family dynasty) preferred Saifuddin to be number two.
Saifuddin is one of the challengers for the deputy presidency.
"Azmin should realise that his status as Anwar's blue-eyed boy has expired. He is now a threat to the survival of the Anwar-Azizah political dynasty.
"Anwar and Azizah has never seen Azmin more than an errand boy. But the Azmin now is not the Azmin then. Today, he is a warlord in PKR," Zulkifli added.
The former Kulim Bandar Baharu MP also claimed that the Saifuddin-Nurul-Rafizi trio are engineering another conspiracy.
"I believe everyone will be shocked when this is revealed...What is certain is that the conspiracy is to ensure the continuity of Anwar's political lifeline," he added.
Zulkifli said that Azmin is not part of the plot and would find himself ousted from PKR unless he launched a pre-emptive strike against the three leaders.
