Axe at neck, Khalid continues defiant stride

Although PKR has placed his head on the chopping block, Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim continues to stride with an air of defiance.

Speaking to reporters in Kajang today, he said that his position cannot be decided by just “one group of people”.

“To appoint a MB, it is not based on the decision of one group but multiple groups. The sultan has to accept, only then can one become MB,” he added.

Khalid recalled how when he was appointed as menteri besar, “all groups” had suggested his name for the post.

“The sultan asked (all components) of Pakatan Rakyat then to draft a letter of agreement with regard to my appointment,” he said.

When told that some have suggested for a vote of confidence to be move against him should he refuse to step down, Khalid reiterated his earlier stand.

“I have said before that I will follow the due process of the law. There are enactments and rules to be observed (in replacing the MB),” he added.

Responding to another question, Khalid said the law does provide an avenue for state assemblypersons to move a vote of no confidence against the menteri besar.

Although PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim announced that his wife and party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is slated to replace Khalid, the matter appears far from being settled.

Khalid, who has been MB since 2008, seems adamant on resisting while certain factions in PAS also want him to continue.

Apart from this, there is also talk that the incumbent’s close rapport with the sultan might also prove to be a major stumbling block for PKR to replace Khalid.
