FLAMBOYANT LIFESTYLES of Johor royalty back in spotlight with mysterious death of Estonian model
KUALA LUMPUR - With not much yet known pertaining to the case of murdered Estonian freelance model Regina Soosalu on Pulau Rawa, Johor, strange details are slowly emerging.
Beginning with the cops reclassifying the investigation on her death from drowning to murder, her boyfriend has now been remanded for a week.
The Rakyat Post had reported on July 7 on Soosalu’s death after sources in the modelling industry revealed that the freelancer had passed away on July 1.
However, according to the sources, some of them personal friends of the model, they were only informed about her demise on July 6.
On July 9, Johor cops held a press conference confirming Soosalu’s death and the reclassification of the investigation, based on suspicious wounds found on her body.
Initially six people were detained to facilitate investigations, with an additional two more picked up yesterday, as reported by the New Straits Times.
Meanwhile, this morning, The Star revealed that Soosalu’s boyfriend, Tunku Alang Reza was detained together with a friend, Augustine.
The daily reported Johor CID chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan as confirming the remand of Soosalu’s boyfriend.
Another detail also disclosed that Soosalu and her Johor royalty boyfriend had faced drug charges in May this year.
Both pleaded not guilty to possession of cannabis and were released on bail.
Tunku Alang Reza is the son of the late Tunku Alang Ibrahim Tunku Muhammad Archibald, owner of Alang’s Rawa resort, where Soosalu had been when she died.
Police told the media that Soosalu had arrived on the island on July 1 and confirmed she had died the same day.
Earlier, The Rakyat Post had contacted the Estonian Foreign Ministry which confirmed Soosalu’s death in a brief email.
“The Malaysian authorities are leading the investigation,” responded Estonian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mariann Sudakov.
Soosalu, who lives in Kuala Lumpur, as stated on her Facebook profile, was believed to have been on the island for a holiday.
It was also stated on her Facebook profile that she was in a relationship with one Alang Reza.
While Alang Reza’s profile had minimal postings for public view, Malaysiakini shared a posting he made, mourning the death of Soosalu.
“Regina my love has passed away on July 1, in the holy month of Ramadan. She is my love, my best friend and will continue to be my inspiration for the rest of my life,” were among the words he had written.
“Till we meet again I love you my baby, you’ll always be in my heart,” he further wrote.
Born in 1986, the 28-year-old Tunku Alang Reza is the older brother of Tunku Mishal Shahrin who was alleged to have beaten up a deejay back in 2012.
Although there were no official reports linking Tunku Mishal to the incident, the social networking site Twitter went to town when the incident happened in April, 2012 when local celebrity Hunny Madu or Hani Farhana Hatim and her brother Hafiz Hatim implicated Tunku Mishal.
Hafiz had uploaded a picture of a badly beaten up deejay Mikhael Adam Mohd Rafae or better known as SonaOne, saying, “If u are wondering who that is on my profile pic. It’s Mika @ItsSonaOne. Beaten up at roots at 4am by Tunku Mishal Sharin Tunku Ibrahim.”
“Anyone has Tunku Mishal Sharin Tunku Ibrahim’s phone number/address? He has crossed the line way too many times. Stop him bfo he kills.
“Get ur newspapers now. Get Tunku Mishal Shahrin away from our society. He who thinks he’s king of the world shud live in a cage,” he added.
Online portal the Malaysian Digest at the time quoted sources as saying that Hafiz, at one time, had also been a victim of Tengku Mishal Shahrin alleged violent conduct in 2011.
At the time, the current Tengku Mahkota Johor (TMJ), Tunku Ismail Ibrahim was active on Twitter.
Hafiz had also tweeted TMJ informing of Tunku Mishal’s alleged misconduct with regards to SonaOne.
To that, TMJ had replied, “I know him. He is banned from Johor long time ago. I don’t like the guy.”
According to Malaysian Digest, SonaOne sustained injuries to the head and face after he was beaten up in front of Lot 10 in Bukit Bintang at 4am.
Tunku Alang Reza and his siblings are the great, great grandchildren of former Johor Sultan, Sultan Sir Ibrahim al-Mashur ibni al-Marhum Sultan Sir Abu Bakar.
Their father, Tunku Alang Ibrahim was the current Sultan, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail ibni al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Iskandar’s second cousin. -http://www.therakyatpost.com
